FAQs

How can we implement the HeartBridge curriculum?

There are many strategies a school can use to implement our curriculum. Our program is designed for flexibility, so implementation is simply a matter of deciding what is best for your school.

If a school has the ability, the program is best implemented from 7th grade until 11th grade. Our curriculum is divided into four modules, which can be matched to each grade:

    • 7th to  8thgrade: Module  1
    • 9th grade:          Module  2
    • 10th grade:        Module  3
    • 11th grade:        Module  4

The length of time it takes your school to finish each Module is strictly dependent upon the amount of time each day/each week your school dedicates to teaching the curriculum. View possible strategies for teaching our program.

Do I need to teach the lessons in order?

The lessons have been put in a specific order within each Module, building upon each other in an effort to have the strongest impact on the student. As an example: our Suicide Prevention Area of Focus builds upon such areas as Self-Worth, Compassion, Bullying, and others. The strength of the HeartBridge curriculum is that, the student is constantly being exposed to material that any given Area of Focus might reach them. They may find what they need to heal trauma through multiple lessons. Also, if a school is having a particular issue, full flexibility is given to skip to a particular lesson or pathway that will address those issues.

How long are the lessons?

Each lesson is designed to take approximately forty-five minutes to an hour to teach. Some teachers will want to spend more time on a lesson, especially if there is a specific intervention or issue going on in their class or school. A 20-minute advisory class may spend two or three days on one lesson. A health class may spend a week on our suicide prevention or anti-bullying intervention pathway. Remember, the goal is to impact the child or children in a meaningful way. Just to teach the curriculum will not be enough. Class feedback, activities, and workbook activity are critical in understanding where each child is emotionally and socially. The teacher should not feel as if they need to rush to finish the curriculum. The process is meant to be fluid, giving each teacher the necessary room to move at a faster or slower pace.

Do all teachers need a curriculum?

Yes, all teachers implementing the HeartBridge program need access to the curriculum. If multiple teachers, or all teachers, use the program, the school will need to purchase a school-wide license. Each teacher will be issued a login and password into the online program. Hard copies will be issued according to the program that is purchased. (link to pricing)

Who should teach the curriculum?

HeartBridge has a boot camp-like training in the summer. We also do on-site location when needed. It is recommended that teachers, counselors and administrators who will teach the lessons should attend a training. If a counselor is teaching the program to a group of students, it is recommended that the counselor have teaching experience. The teacher must be willing to model and learn along with the kids. The most important ingredient for success is that the teacher has a passion for students and their well-being. This program has the potential to be life changing for both teachers and students.
